The Retail Skills Coordinator is responsible for providing dynamic, hands-on retail training to individuals enrolled in the Retail Skills Training program. This individual will play a key role in the coordination, development and presentation of the retail skills training program with qualified trainees.


The position reports to the District Manager who will evaluate the individual's performance annually. 





  1. Dynamic communicator with the ability to motivate trainees through hands on one on one interaction.


  1. Must be able to work well with the Store Managers and his/her team to ensure the needs of the store are met.


  1. Review the files of individuals participating in the program prior to their start date to ensure that the facilitator is familiar with the individual.


  1. Evaluate and measure trainees' progress using assessments, recommend necessary training activities to assist trainees' progress.


  1. Identify training and support issues in conjunction with the designated Case Manager.


  1. Coordinate weekly training schedules.


  1. Complete the required weekly participation form to determine progress in the program component.


  1. Prepare weekly progress reports of training conducted, effectiveness of training and attainment of goals. Ensure that all designated parties receive a copy of the progress report.


  1. Coordinate with the Store Manager to ensure that all slots are filled with trainees to ensure the store is able to process materials, stock the store, provide superior customer service, operate the cash register and maintain the cleanliness of the store.


  1. Coordinate with the Director of Career and Business Engagement to develop a Retail Advisory Board which will assist in providing advice and information to ensure the program meets the needs of local retailers.


  1. In conjunction with the Director of Career and Business Engagement and the Retail Advisory Board, develop internships with local retailers as appropriate to further enhance the training.


  1. Conduct retail skills workshops utilizing the approved curriculum.


  1. As needed, provide additional workshops


  1. Manage voice mail box; return calls in a timely manner.


  1. Manage e-mail and return emails in a timely manner.


  1. Manage all other forms of communication in an appropriate and timely manner.


  1. Communicate with professionalism and respect (both internal and external customers).


  1. As appropriate, community individuals including social service experts, employers, etc. are to be scheduled to participate in the workshops to assist in providing relevance to the materials presented by the facilitator.


  1. Fills in for store management absences to address tasks such as, but not limited to, opening and closing of store, processing returns, etc.


  1. Responsible for operating security alarm system.





  1. Teaching and/or group facilitation skills and experience a must.


  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  1. Ability to work with minimal supervision.


  1. Ability to react quickly to situations and provide solid guidance in line with needs of clients, requirements of funding streams, policies of Goodwill and legal requirements.


  1. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet stringent deadlines.


  1. Demonstrated ability to motivate others.


  1. Ability to relate to, understand, and be creative in meeting the needs of:


  • disabled and disadvantaged clients
  • illiterate to college educated clients
  • ex-offenders
  • referral agencies in the area


  1. Ability to function under pressure, be self-directed, and be responsible for carrying out job related activities with minimal supervision.


  1. Ability to use discretion and sound judgment when working independent of supervision and interpret and implement general placement policies.


  1. Ability to adjust to a flexible schedule.


  1. Ability to mediate, negotiate, and resolve client and funding stream grievances on behalf of the client and/or funding stream.


  1. Ability to communicate orally and hear clearly.


  1. Must possess a current Driver's License.


  1. Must possess current automobile insurance that provides adequate coverage.


  1. Ability to use Microsoft Office Products at an advance level, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
