The Retail Training Specialist is responsible for providing dynamic, hands-on retail training to entry level employees, processing start day paperwork, conducting orientation and providing a smooth onboarding experience for new employees.  

This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and District Manager who will evaluate the individual's performance annually.  



  1. Dynamic communicator with the ability to go through hands on training interaction and ensure new hires experience a smooth onboarding into their new roles. 
  1. Must be able to work well with the Store Managers and their team to ensure the needs of the store are met. 
  1. Process all start day paperwork (Form I-9, tax and direct deposit information). 
  1. Organize employee orientation (introduction to Goodwill's mission, employee policies, and daily schedule of training topics). 
  1. Provide clear expectations, directions, coaching and performance feedback to new hires during onboarding and beyond. 
  1. Assist in creating and updating employee training program and tools to be delivered. 
  1. Create and deliver follow up training as needed. 
  1. Prepare progress reports of training conducted, effectiveness of training and attainment of goals. Ensure that all designated parties are aware of their progress. 
  1. Coordinate with the Store Manager to ensure that all job openings are filled with trainees to ensure the store is able to process materials, stock the store, provide superior customer service, operate the cash register and maintain the cleanliness of the store. 
  1. Communicate with the home Store Managers and new hires the start date at their home store.
  2. Gather feedback from new hires on the onboarding process. 
  1. Assist in monitoring turnover and retention rates. 
  1. Communicate closely with Human Resources staff regarding new hire paperwork and payroll. 
  1. Manage voice mail and email and returning calls or messages in a timely manner. 
  1. Manage all other forms of communication in an appropriate and timely manner. 
  1. Communicate with professionalism and respect (both internal and external customers). 


  1. Teaching and/or group facilitation skills and experience a must. 
  1. Be E-Verify trained for start day paperwork. 
  1. Be up to date on policies and procedures and HR knowledgeable.
  1. Knowledge of start day paperwork procedures. 
  1. Knowledge of new employee orientation process. 
  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  1. Ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  1. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet stringent deadlines. 
  1. Demonstrated ability to motivate others. 
  1. Ability to relate to, understand, and be creative in meeting the needs of candidates who may be:
    1. disabled and disadvantaged
    2. illiterate to college educated 
  1. Ability to function under pressure, be self-directed, and be responsible for carrying out job related activities with minimal supervision. 
  1. Ability to use discretion and sound judgment when working independent of supervision and interpret and implement general placement policies. 
  1. Ability to adjust to a flexible schedule.
  2. Ability to communicate orally and hear clearly. 
  1. Must possess a current driver's license. 
  1. Must possess current automobile insurance that provides adequate coverage. 
  1. Ability to use Microsoft Office Products at an advanced level, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
